Foundation

Mission Statement:
The Eagles Mere Foundation was created as a means to build a "safety net of funds" to help pay for unforeseen expenses
as to preserve the unique character of Eagles Mere.

About the Foundation:
The Eagles Mere Foundation was established in August 1986 to help preserve, protect, and enhance the unique character of Eagles Mere.
It became a community foundation in 2006.

Trustees are elected annually to oversee investments, receive contributions, direct grants & capital gifts, and conduct any other business
to come before the foundation.  All trustees are available to answer questions from interested community members, potential donors or grant recipients.

Executive Committee:
President:  Kathy Holmes
Vice President:  Amy Shapiro
Secretary:  Beth Blair
Treasurer:  Henry Long
Trustees:  Marria Walsh, Dennis Craig, Andy Rau

Investment Committee:
Henry Long, Jon Walheim

Former Trustees:

The Foundation relies upon tax-deductible contributions, memorial gifts and bequests.
Contributions are welcome at any time.  Since inception, grants have been awarded to numerous organizations which serve the community:

Street signage
Shade tree commission
Centennial commission
Lake road safety study
Borough branch
Eagles Mere Conservancy
Eagles Mere Museum
Eagles Mere Athletic Association
Eagles Mere Fire Company & Ambulance Association
Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts
Eagles Mere Cemetery Association
Eagles Mere Historic Village,  Inc.
Eagles Mere Civic Club,  Inc.
Ensemble Theatre Community School
Protect Eagles Mere Alliance

The Foundation received approval in 2006 from the Internal Revenue Service to change to a community foundation.
While this change in status from a private foundation does not alter the mission of the foundation, it does give the foundation more flexibility when it comes to grant giving.  It also permits the establishment of “donor advised funds” whereby the donor may name the fund and advise the foundation on distributions from the fund.  The donor may be an individual, a family, or a community organization.

Please consider including The Eagles Mere Foundation in your Will.
While your attorney and tax advisor should be consulted before making changes to your legal documents, the following example may be helpful:

“I give to The Eagles Mere Foundation,  a community  foundation serving
Eagles Mere, PA, the sum of $________ to be used for general
charitable purposes."

The Eagles Mere Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue Service code and is registered with the Pennsylvania Commission on Charitable Organizations.
